• Notes

  Possibly related to Richard Rae, a shoemaker who was one of the first three Quakers in Scotland, along with Alexander Hamilton and John Hart. He took part in meetings at Drumbowy and Heads in Lanarkshire. He was the first Quaker to be arrested in Aberdeen in 1663 for attending conventicles and was imprisoned for six months . He subsequently moved to Edinburgh (1670-75) where he lived during the worst of the persecution of Quakers in Aberdeen in the 1670s.
