  May be a member of the Rainey merchant family of Antrim, mentioned in Jean Agnew's 'Belfast Merchant Families of the Seventeenth Century' (Dublin: Four Courts Press, 1996). There is confusion over references to Killybegs: is this the deep water port in Donegal, or a townland, Downkillybegs in Antrim? There wasa Robert Rainey of Killybegs, (second?) son of John Rainey and a daughter of Hugh Eccles of Belfast. Killybegs was a staging port for the Scots emigrant voyages
